Born and raised in Fargo, Jasper Schneider’s commitment to public service and common sense problem solving is reflective of his North Dakota roots.
After attending public schools and graduating from Fargo South High School where he was a three sport letter-winner and an editor of the school newspaper and yearbook, Jasper enrolled at Jamestown College where he majored in Criminal Justice. Jasper continued his education and pursued a legal education from Hamline University School of Law. He currently practices law at the Schneider Law Firm, specializing Workforce Safety & Insurance, Social Security Disability Insurance, Employment Law and Civil Litigation. Jasper also spent time as an adjunct professor at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he taught Mass Media Law.
In 2006, the voters of Fargo's District 21 entrusted Jasper with the honor of serving in the North Dakota House of Representatives. Jasper completed his first session in 2007 where he successfully led the charge to increase the state's minimum wage and worked to provide meaningful property tax relief, strengthen consumer protection laws, and increase funding for education. Rep. Schneider serves on the Human Services, Government and Veteran's Affairs and Constitutional Revision committees. Between legislative sessions, Schneider serves on the Judiciary and Higher Education committees.
In 2008, Jasper was the Dem-NPL candidate for Insurance Commissioner narrowly losing the race with 49.7% of the vote. North Dakota's largest newspaper, The Fargo Forum, touted Jasper for the job stating "Schneider's record as an attorney and lawmaker confirms he is a genuine champion for consumers." and "Schneider certainly is qualified by life/work experience and temperament to do the job well."
Jasper continued his work on behalf of all North Dakotas in the 2009 legislative session where he lead the effort to expand health insurance to more unisured kids, helped pass the largest education funding bill in the history of the state and fought for tax breaks for those who need it the most. Jasper currently works as legal counsel to Senator Kent Conrad, working specifically on health care reform.
Jasper is the son of Lois and the late John Schneider, who represented District 21 for over ten years in the North Dakota Legislature and served two terms as House Minority Leader before being appointed United States Attorney by President Clinton.
In 2002, Jasper married his high school sweetheart Kim (Ibach). Together they make their home on Third Avenue South in Fargo with their two children, Jack and Elise.
